Flat update
2008/11/20 16:18:32 GMT+0So I guess it's time for another update on the flat. My estimate on the bathroom from two posts earlier seems to have been way off. Just this week we finally got the new bathroom in a state where we could have a shower there. We've been using an old crappy shower cabinet on the 4th floor in the meanwhile and we couldn't be happier about the new shower. So far the response to our bathroom has been very good. We've got large, terracotta-like tiles on the floor, polished sandstone-like tiles in the toilet and shower enclosures and white tiles with a band of the sandstone-like tiles on the rest of the walls. Thanks to a pump and a new, larger water pipe from the neighbors we have decent enough water pressure for running a rainfall shower which is now pure luxury after the crappy shower enclosure. We've not used the rather large bathtub yet, but it's scheduled for a test-run this weekend. The bathroom is not completely finished yet, it's still hasn't got the right skylight mounted, and there are no lights in there yet.
I've also laid the new floor in both bedrooms, but they still need some plastering done and sockets in the guest bedroom. The doors are in however, and we've moved into the master bedroom, and my mum is currently occupying the guest bedroom. As soon as the builders are finished I'll be laying the floor in the hallway, and the final thing to be done is probably my study.
I'm keen to start putting in some network cable so we don't have to have all our computers clustered around Lande's study, but I'm not sure how useful it is to do that yet as the server/storage room is not ready to take any equipment (still quite a bit of work to be done in there which would mean dust and things that are not good for hardware...)
My mother has also sewn some curtains for us which have made a huge impact on the 3rd floor, and since we removed the bed from the dining room it's almost starting to look finished. We'd like to paint the living and dining room before Christmas, but I'm not sure we'll be able to do that. The sliding doors between those rooms should be fitted tomorrow which will help keep cooking smells out of the living room, but will probably also make the living room seem even more crowded than it looks at the moment. We really need to move out my desk, a sofa, the air conditioner and the rather large book shelves.
On a different note I started my new job at Flowtraders this Monday. So far I'm really liking it. The guys are great and the general mood is really upbeat.
